The Koforidua Polytechnic was established in 1997 and is one of the new polytechnic institutions in Ghana.
The establishment of the polytechnic institutions was the fulfillment of the vision of government that polytechnic institutions should be tertiary institutions capable of training middle-level manpower for the country.
The Polytechnic Act (Act 745, 2007) states the objectives of establishing the polytechnics as:
I. To provide tertiary (Higher Education) in the fields of manufacturing, commerce, science technology, applied social science, applied arts and any other field approved of by the Minister and
II. To provide opportunities for skills development, applied research and publication of research findings.
The polytechnic institutions, especially, the Koforidua Polytechnic has been striving to fulfill the objectives despite the multitudes of challenges it encounters.
Currently, the Polytechnic has developed and acquired a GET Fund sponsored two 12-Unit Classroom Complex Blocks (having offices, classrooms and lecture theatres), a Computer Centre, a modern administrative block and six (6) completed staff bungalows.
